Lately, I have noticed that trends decide who we choose to be as ladies. I’m sure you have too. It’s looking as though we dress for his pleasure [to impress men] rather than for His pleasure [to please God]. Before now, we used to love wearing clothes that covered up the “less honorable” parts of our bodies. By less honorable, I simply mean that those parts are obviously meant to be covered up. However, in recent times, our clothes leave little or nothing to their imagination because most of our body parts are hanging out there for the opposite sex to see and “appreciate you better.” That’s the whole idea, isn’t it?
Only that there’s something seriously wrong with this idea which brings me to my question. Were you created for their pleasure or for His pleasure? Let’s take our masks off because I’m about to have a heart to heart with you right now.
Here is how things really are – For His Pleasure
We live in a generation where decency seems outdated and boring while nudity in various forms is everywhere you look; A “lust inspired” and “attention seeking” generation. Judging from the “sexy slay queen” poses; the “dress to kill” fashion; the public flirting and flaunting; the struggle to come off as being sexy; the “online and offline celebrity” status rush and the like, I don’t think anyone would be wrong to say that we are losing our God given identity and adopted the new identity; “sex objects“.
The hustle to be tagged as sexy is real and everyone is trying to outdo the others. We keep copying each other and get frustrated at the end of the day. Oh, and how can I forget this one – we’d rather be women who are up to date with trends than women who seek to please God in every way including how we dress.
Do you even know what it means to be sexy?
I mean I know we use the word often but frankly, I think most of us have no clue. To be sexy means to arouse or tend to arouse sexual desire or interest; provoke or intend to provoke sexual interest; sexually interesting or exciting. Is this the reason God created us as single women? When did our purpose shift from being helpmeets in marriage and honoring God with our bodies as singles to being a sex agent; one who ignites and stirs up lustful passion in others?
His pleasure or his pleasure?
Before you call me a saint, let me admit to the fact that I haven’t been all too faithful in this area. I’ve been tempted greatly to follow trends so that men would find me more appealing. Also, I wanted all eyes to be on me when I walked into a room full of people. I’ve talked myself into believing that there’s nothing wrong with showing off a little cleavage, flaunting my legs and all my “assets”.
A lot of us see nothing wrong with wearing skimpy clothes. To us, it is freedom of expression and it’s their life so who are you to judge? Some would argue that the body is theirs to flaunt as they please. Others would tell you that they have no ill motive for dressing seductively after it’s what they are comfortable wearing. A few might even tell you that if a guy decides to get aroused by their way of dressing, it is not their fault.
How can we be so blinded by our selfish interests not to see that our indecency is leading young men to sin?
Some of them masturbate because of what they see and in no time, they graduate to rape. I know you’d say they should learn to control themselves better and trust me, I agree but have you ever read the scripture –
“It is inevitable that stumbling blocks and temptations to sin will come; but woe (judgment is coming) to the person on whose account or through whom it comes” (Matthew 18:7).
You may say they should learn to control themselves better and give other excuses, just to make yourself to feel good about what you are doing. However, it still doesn’t change the consequences of what you are doing. You are doing a seed of lust in the hearts of men and even if men applaud you, God frowns on your actions.
You were created for His pleasure, not men’s.
Use your bodies in ways that please the Lord. The attention you seek from men will never fill you up. You will keep getting thirsty and keep buying wares you don’t really need to keep the spotlight on you. Come and drink from the well that never runs dry. For what would it profit you if you gain all the likes, recognition and approval of everyone and then lose God’s approval when it counts the most? [standing before Him in judgment]. You belong to Christ because your single days is the time to build a solid relationship with God. Honor God with your body. It is His not yours.
You need to make a resolve to walk away from all that drama and come to Jesus. You know why I always point people to Jesus. It’s because He is the way, Truth, and the Life. There is absolutely no one and nothing that’s difficult for Him. In fact, He loves you which is why you are reading this right now.
Your body is where He wants to dwell.
But He doesn’t share. Not until He’s sure you can lean on Him. He wants to be involved in every area of your life. Your worth is not tied to the number of reactions you get. Your identity is in Christ. It is in Him that you know who you are and what you are living for. Sometimes, we forget that we are created for His pleasure and not theirs.
Jesus is offering you water from a well that will fill you up eternally. You don’t have to keep living so dangerously. Every second is an opportunity to make a U-turn. You will look beautiful, clothed in modest and classy wares that not only glorify God but portrays you as His image. Make a commitment today to glorify Him in your dressing. Be modest.
Pick up the bible today; the mirror of truth through which we see ourselves as we truly are. The time has come to rise up, raise others up as well and live out our God-given identity; empowering and encouraging each other.
Lord, I now know how much I’ve abused the opportunity of life you give to me every day; I choose to live for your pleasure; honor you with my spirit, soul, and body. I break away from the demonic influence of indecency through the blood of Jesus. I submit all that I am to you. Use me for your glory, in Jesus name”. Amen!!!
